First of all, I'm kind of new on Reddit and I didn't seem to find any Endless Space 2 specific reddit, so I hope I got this one right. If this is the wrong place for this discussion, please just tell me. Also, be kind for any formatting mistake. So, we know that the Vaulters in EL are the descendants of some prisoners that crashed in the depths of Auriga back in DotE.
We can also assume from the Mezari reskin that those prisoners were part of this ancient race. Their description pictures the Mezari as 'accustomed to a life in space'. Now, the latest announced faction in ES2 is the Vodyani. These not-so-nice dudes are part of a cult that drains other people's life in order to sustain their awesome super-suits, which allowed them to survive after some time (maybe even centuries) of poverty and starvation. These suits, like other parts of their technology, are leftovers of the Virtual Endless, whom they worship as gods.
But what is most important is why they suffered starvation: they went through 'a classic cycle of over-industrialization'. For this reason, they had to accustom to - guess what - a life in space.
This is explicitly said in their trait 'Star bound': they live in giant arks, sacred to them, using planets nearly only as a source of feeding. What really strikes me, though, is the almost perfect resemblance of their desing to the Mezari's: almost identical suits, similar colours, their respective leaders even wear similar pauldrons and capes.
Their names both end in -i, which is not really common in the Endless universe. Everything about the Vodyani recalls Mezari and I'm frankly surprised no one has still noticed it, neither here nor on Games2gether.Chronologically, my guess is that things went roughly like this:.The Mezari were a thriving empire, maybe even the first human starfaring civilization.Mezari's homeworld gets wrecked by over-industrialization, forcing them to gradually rely on spaceship life in order to survive and find resources. One day, the prison pod of one of these 'proto-arks' detaches from the main ship and falls on Auriga.
These men's descendants are to become the Vaulters. The Mezari homeworld gets totally abadoned. The Mezari die quickly, but resist. This collapse could even have prevented them from actually colonizing Auriga, but this is pure and wild speculation. While the Vaulters develope their own culture on Auriga, the Mezari find out the 'Cloth' left by the Virtuals.
This way, they become fervent worshippers of the Endless and tend to totally estrange from their 'heretical' past.A lot of time later, the now-Vodyani have forgotten their origins. We don't know yet if the Vaulters are going to be playable (it's quite likely, tho), but this would mean that the two cultures would co-exist in the same universe, sisters but somewhat estranged by centuries of separation and different evolution. This would uncover a lot of mysteries about humans in the Endless universe and their mutual relationships. Still, there are a couple of things left to understand. Download game offline mod pc games. For an instance, di where the United Empire come from?
In the original ES, if I recall correctly, it is stated that the Vaulters are the progenitors of all mankind, Empire included. Now that we know of the pre-existent Mezari and the current Vodyani, we could think that something in the lore may have changed.
Personally, I'd say that some kind of far Vaulters secessionists ended up for settling on the surface and develope their technology and economics, under the mistrusting eyes of the conservative Vaulters, rooted to their old ways (this isn't explicitly said either, though their willingness to 'remain nomadic' seems to be implied in ES). But, after all, we can't even count on humans not to be artificial.Sorry for the lengthy post, but I truly hope It'll help to make things clearer and stimulate a good ol' lore discussion. Cheers!EDIT: Just some layout changes. They're iconography shows them wrapped in the Cloth and on the official Wiki page it is stated that the Cloth is mechanically controlled by the Church, so there's even the possibility that they almost never take it off. Besides, the 'masses' carved on that 'wall' in the trailer are shown as totally human-like, although with no face, as it would be custom in a society with little room for individuality. I mean, even their trailer's music is closely EL-ish in style (this may not be a clue, however, since I have still to listent to the whole game soundtrack).I leave here a link to a Mezari concept art and the Vodyani wiki page, in order to make a quick comparison between their designs:The resemblance is way too great not to be intentional.

Well, we've certainly got Auriga, and since they've been in every game, we'll probably see the Vaulters again. It'd be neat if they brought in a few EL faction Heroes, like they did with the Broken Lords in ES1. Especially since Heroes are supposed to get their own quests. But some of the EL factions seem thematically inappropriate for ES (Walkers, Mages, Morgawr), some feel too similar to existing factions (Necrophages, Broken Lords, Roving Clans), and some feel too tied to Auriga to actually leave it (Drakken, Allayi).

And of course, the Forgotten aren't likely to return without an espionage system. If I had to bet on a non-Vaulter EL faction returning in any form, it'd probably be the Cult.Though I'd like to see some Ardent-esque faction appear. I loved playing them.
Well, my theory is crapped anyway. But don't you worry, that's on me, since my daya were clearly outdated. Given this new information, I'd doubt to see a link between Mezari and Vodyani in the game, maybe the similarity between their designs is purely casual, alothough that'd be a bit of a waste. And sorry for the double link, my mistake.Anyway, I think that the Cult would be a great addition to ES2, with revised mechanics to highlight the passing of the ages. I mean, pretty much everything in this new game revolves around teh Endless, particularly the Virtuals (hell, they could be even planning their return, after the 'Vision' trailers). It would be pretty cool to see a sect of Endless worshipper aliens fight against a cult of Endless hating robots - a people saved by the old ones and a faction of their scraps. Too bad for the unlikely appearence of the Broken Lords, but their gamestyle is way too akin to the Vodyani's.
